Summary
The Director of Development is responsible for generating and sustaining more than $2 million in annual philanthropic revenue. This role owns the fundraising pipeline and is accountable for results across individual giving, foundations, and community-based funding sources.
Working closely with the CEO, the Director of Development designs and executes fundraising strategy, manages major donor and foundation portfolios, and oversees development operations through a Development Manager.
This is a hands-on role requiring direct solicitation, disciplined pipeline management, and consistent execution.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Accountability
- Own and deliver annual fundraising revenue of $2M+
- Build and manage a qualified portfolio of medium and large individual donors.
- Drive foundation revenue through targeted prospecting, proposal development, and relationship management.
- Secure multi-year commitments where possible to stabilize revenue.
Fundraising Execution
- Develop annual and quarterly fundraising plans with clear revenue targets, timelines, and accountability.
- Conduct donor cultivation, solicitation, and closing activities directly.
- Partner with the CEO and board members on major donor strategy and solicitations.
- Identify and pursue new funding sources aligned with Club Z’s mission and programs.
Donor & Foundation Management
- Maintain an active pipeline of prospects at all stages (identify, cultivate, solicit, steward).
- Ensure timely and effective stewardship, reporting, and renewal strategies.
- Serve as primary point of contact for key donors and funders.
Team & Operations Management
- Manage the Development Manager, who supports grant writing, reporting, compliance, CRM administration, and donor operations.
- Establish and maintain development systems, processes, and performance metrics appropriate for a remote organization.
- Ensure accurate tracking of donor activity, revenue, and grant compliance.
Reporting & Performance Management
- Provide regular revenue forecasts and performance reports to the COO.
- Track progress against fundraising goals and adjust strategy as needed.
- Support board reporting related to fundraising performance.
Key Qualifications
- 5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience with direct responsibility for major gifts and foundation revenue or equivalent sales experience with direct results.
- Demonstrated track record of raising $2M+ annually.
- Experience closing six- and seven-figure gifts.
- Strong working knowledge of donor pipelines, CRM systems, and fundraising metrics.
- Ability to operate independently, manage priorities, and deliver results in a fully remote environment.
- Familiarity with Jewish philanthropic communities and/or Jewish education funding strongly preferred.
- Alignment with Club Z’s mission.
Work Location & Travel
- Remote, U.S.-based home office.
- Regular travel required for donor meetings, events, and regional engagement.

About the Organization
Club Z is a nonprofit organization providing pro-Zionist Jewish education and after-school programming for 8th–12th grade students in multiple U.S. markets, including the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Northern New Jersey, Brooklyn, and Boston.
